MY STORIES

I began my 11th-grade year filled with high hopes and ambitious dreams. This was the year, I thought, to do something extraordinary—something that would leave a lasting impact on my school. Yet, despite my enthusiasm, I felt a bit adrift, unsure of where to channel my energy and ideas. I wanted to make a difference but didn’t yet know how.
That uncertainty lingered until I heard the announcement that the Dewey Student Council was opening applications for the executive board for the 2023–2024 school year. It was an exciting opportunity, and a spark ignited within me. The idea of running for the position of president—the highest leadership role in the council—suddenly seemed possible, though daunting.
At first, the thought felt like a distant dream. Self-doubt crept in, questioning if I could take on such a significant responsibility. Was I ready to represent the student body? Could I rise to the challenge of leading initiatives that mattered? For weeks, I wrestled with these questions. But as I reflected on my past experiences and the encouragement of those around me, my confidence grew. Slowly, that tiny spark turned into a steady flame.
After much thought and introspection, I decided to leap. Gathering every ounce of courage I had, I submitted my application. I approached the process with a mix of excitement and calm determination. On the day of the election, I faced challenging questions and scenarios that tested my leadership skills, adaptability, and vision for the student council. I answered each one to the best of my ability, staying true to my values and the goals I wanted to achieve.

When the results were announced, I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of trust and support from my peers. I had secured an overwhelming number of votes, a clear affirmation that others believed in me even when I had doubted myself. In that moment, I made a quiet promise to myself: I would dedicate my time, energy, and heart to creating meaningful and sustainable changes for the school.
I chose not to stand before everyone and make lofty promises that day. Instead, I let my actions speak. I resolved to show, through every project, decision, and effort, that I was worthy of the trust placed in me. It was the start of a journey—not just of leadership, but of growth, service, and purpose. This role was more than just a title; it was an opportunity to inspire and uplift others while leaving a legacy that would endure beyond my time at Dewey.
