HEAD OF EVENT AND EXTERNAL RELATIONS, ENGLISH DRAMA SHOW DINH BO LINH,
THE REED FLAG HERO 2024

Vietnam - A Heroic Nation with a Rich 4000-Year History has experienced numerous ups and downs in nation-building and defense. Each period in the nation's history has contributed to the historical legacy with heroes, and many renowned stories, allowing generations of Vietnamese to take pride in their origin. Fondly cherishing and valuing history, The Dewey Schools Tay Ho Tay have conceived the idea of recreating a historical story through a stage play. With their determination and initiative, these students have realized this idea in a play project titled "Dinh Bo Linh - The Reed Flag Hero." Choosing the story of "Dinh Bo Linh suppressing the rebellion of the 12 feudal lords" for adaptation into a theatrical performance using the English language, the project team aimed to vividly and attractively recreate historical memories in the eyes of the audience, both domestically and internationally.

MY STORIES

This event marked my first experience on an event organizing committee, and it came with excitement and uncertainty. Initially, I hadn’t planned to join the production team, as my schedule was already packed, and I was concerned about balancing the role's demands. However, I was entrusted with a position in the external relations department, a role that involved responsibilities I hadn’t expected. My primary tasks included drafting the press release and coordinating with media outlets to ensure the event’s coverage was well-publicized. I saw this role as a unique opportunity to apply my skills in communication and relationship-building. Realizing it aligned well with my strengths, I approached my work with confidence and dedication, eager to see the impact of our efforts. As I handled each responsibility, I gained a deeper understanding of the event’s goals and the importance of public perception. This experience strengthened my commitment to the event’s success and left me with invaluable lessons for future projects.

However, I felt a deep connection to this project due to an unexpected situation: just a week before the event, the organizing committee still didn’t have a leader. When the school initially offered me this position, I hesitated. Primarily, I lacked experience on an event committee, I was already leading the external affairs team, and I hadn’t worked with most of the team members. I worried that the short timeframe and unfamiliarity among the team might lead to misunderstandings and impact the event’s outcome. I deliberated on this decision for quite a while. On the other hand, I recognized this as a rare opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and take on a role I’d never experienced. This sense of challenge sparked my curiosity and made me eager to test my capabilities. Learning that the event could host up to 500 guests made it feel like an even more rewarding opportunity. I felt the team’s trust in my leadership, which motivated me greatly. So, why hold back? I accepted the role within a day. Despite occasional challenges along the way, I’m confident we shared incredible moments and learned valuable lessons for the future.

To bring about a theatrical production lasting over an hour on stage, our team collaborated in discussions, organized teams based on specific tasks, and held continuous planning meetings. Personnel assignments were made according to each individual's capabilities, allowing them to unleash their creativity and leverage their strengths. Despite the project running parallel to regular academic activities, we persisted in organizing our time scientifically, actively pursuing assigned tasks, supporting each other, and seeking advice from teachers and parents to successfully carry out the project. Through the process of "seeing, thinking, and doing," I mastered knowledge and insights drawn from their direct experiences, a depth of understanding that no curriculum alone can provide.
