MY STORIES

The Dewey Schools, as a relatively new institution, had yet to cultivate a diverse range of extracurricular activities for its students. Recognizing this gap, I began exploring ways to create more opportunities for student engagement and enrichment. While observing other high schools in Hanoi, I was particularly drawn to their model of self-led student clubs. These clubs not only empowered students to pursue their passions but also fostered leadership, teamwork, and creativity. Inspired by this concept, I envisioned establishing the first extracurricular club at Dewey, taking on the challenge of becoming a pioneer in the school’s student activity scene.

I delved deeper into understanding the strengths and needs of Dewey’s students, I noticed an intriguing pattern. Students excelled in artistic disciplines, such as visual arts and performance arts, as evidenced by their numerous awards and achievements in these fields. The school had invested heavily in supporting the arts. Yet, I also observed a significant gap: activities related to the natural sciences were largely overlooked, despite a noticeable interest among students in these subjects. Many students expressed a passion for science but lacked the platform to explore it collaboratively and engagingly.

This realization sparked a new idea. I decided to make a meaningful difference by focusing on an area that had been underserved. I chose to found the Dewey Science Club—the very first student-led club at The Dewey Schools. My goal was not only to provide a space for science enthusiasts to come together but also to inspire other students to appreciate and explore the wonders of science.
